Jimmy: Hi guys. Welcome back to the “We Buy Ugly Houses Show.” My name is Jimmy Ogle. I’m a development agent with HomeVestors and have a franchise here in Oklahoma City.
Today we’re going to be talking about setting goals. Setting goals gives you direction and boosts your motivation and self-confidence. When it comes to setting goals on how many deals you would like, the best thing is to kind of start with the end in mind. How much do you want to make? You know, and then figure out how many deals it’s going to take of you getting done to make that a reality. Then you just kind of go from there.
Once you get that number in mind, I suggest that you double it. Which goal would you rather come up short on? Making a million dollars or making $100,000? I mean, mine would be the million dollars, obviously.
Our first calendar year as a franchise, we had set a goal for 20 houses, and we hit that by about July, and so we had to reset our goals, and we adjusted to 30. We ended up ending the year out with 32 deals, and we actually won third place Rookie of the Year contract with HomeVestors that year because of that. Now, would we have ever been able to get near those numbers without having goals that we felt like were high? I don’t think so.
I’ve got a quote here from Prentice Mulford that says, “Whatever the mind is set upon or whatever it keeps most in view that is bringing to it, and the continued thought or imagining must at last take form and shape in the world of sane and tangible things.” Kind of a more easily way to state that would be thoughts are things. You know? What you think about comes about.
If you’re thinking about, “Well, I can’t do this. I’m never going to be able to find a deal. I’m never going to be able to sell a deal,” then that’s going to be your reality, but if you have confidence and have an abundance mentality, then that’s going to be your reality.
Just going out there, like for us, you know, we have a goal for 60 deals this year, and I tell myself every day, we’ll do 60 deals this year. I just suggest you go set some goals and go out there and crush it, guys. Thanks again, joining us on “We Buy Ugly Houses Show”, and we’ll see you next time.
